COOP in VIVO's Vision

A world where access to healthcare and medical innovations no longer depends on place of birth. By developing practical training in biotechnology and promoting science in developing countries, in direct partnership with local stakeholders, we contribute to the emergence of qualified professionals capable of strengthening the healthcare autonomy of their region.

History of the Non-Profit Organization

The idea for Coop in vivo originated within the Culture in vivo training programs.
These programs brought together trainees from numerous developing countries, who shared their experiences and challenges in learning biotechnology techniques.

Through these discussions, a key observation emerged: these students possessed an excellent theoretical foundation but lacked opportunities to put their knowledge into practice.

From these discussions arose the desire to create Coop in vivo, a non-profit organization dedicated to the co-creation of practical training programs, in partnership with local institutions, for equitable access to science and health.

Our commitment: to strengthen technical education, value local knowledge, and encourage collaboration between stakeholders in the Global North and South, on an equal footing.

Our missions

Improving access to practical training in biotechnology

We co-develop biotechnology training programs with higher education institutions in developing countries, tailored to local needs.

Alongside universities and pharmaceutical companies, we work to strengthen scientific autonomy and increase the number of qualified professionals in this sector.

Our goal: to foster the creation of pharmaceutical production and diagnostic centers, thereby sustainably improving access to medicines and healthcare tools.

Strengthening local infrastructure

We contribute to improving infrastructure by facilitating the acquisition and installation of essential laboratory equipment (PCR machines, laminar flow hoods, autoclaves, etc.), enabling high-quality technical training.

Hosting interns and teachers at our partner center

We host students and teachers from partner countries at our partner training center, Culture in vivo, in Belgium. These two-month internships allow them to develop their skills in molecular biology, cell culture, microbiology, virology, and immunological techniques, fostering exchange and collaboration. Ultimately, we aim to structure training sessions specifically for these participants, offered in Spanish, French, or English.

Promoting science in secondary schools

In collaboration with local schools, both on-site and remotely, we offer hands-on biology workshops, particularly to introduce microbiology and inspire future scientists.
